CRANE RESIDENCE

 

A new residence in Mandeville, Louisiana two blocks from Lake Pontchartrain. The client desired a Craftsman style residence done in the "Airplane Bungalow" manner in which second story walls step in from first floor exterior walls punching through the pitched roofs rising from the first story eaves. Structural timber framing was exposed inside and out with tapered porch columns, shaped rafter tails and gable brackets. Interior timber floor structure was exposed also with chamfered posts and beams constructed with mortice and tenon joinery. Both house and garage were designed to meet 140 mph wind load. The garage sits back down a drive at the side of the house. A simple two-story gable roofed structure with molded cornice and doors protected with awnings supported with timber brackets.
